If your brake light is on but you are not using the emergency brake, this is an indicator that your brake fluid is low and you should go in for repair. Take note, too, that you should not automatically have your brake fluid topped off just because your brakes are being repaired. Fluid levels are supposed to run a bit on the low side so that your brakes can wear properly. Do not delay taking your car in for brake repair should you notice shaking, squealing or grinding when you use your brakes. These signs are intended to serve as a warning that brake repair is warranted.
