Steel garage, exploring in depth
Quonset huts, as originally designed, had sides corrugated with steel sheets. The ends were covered with plywood, and had doors and windows, while the floor inside was wooden. Quonset huts formed a compact, versatile unit that had the capability of being placed anywhere at all. Their multi purpose structures found use as barracks, offices, ammunition dumps, housing, latrines, among many others. Thousands of Quonset huts were constructed for the war, and surplus ones were sold off to the general public at the end of the war.
